Historia dusiciela z Bostonu. De Salvo mordował na wschodnim wybrzeżu Stanów, w latach 1962-1964. Film pokazuje śledztwo prowadzone przez Johna Bottomly i później przesłuchania dla zdobycia dowodów winy. W filmie De Salvo cierpi na schizofrenię i nie uświadamia sobie początkowo, że to on jest dusicielem.
